About Gateway Wound Care

Gateway Wound Care was founded on a simple belief: expert wound care should come to the patient, not the other way around. We bring board-certified wound care specialists directly to homes and facilities across the St. Louis metropolitan area, making advanced wound treatment accessible to those who need it most.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide expert, compassionate wound care to every patient we serve, regardless of where they live or how they receive care. Too many patients with chronic and complex wounds face barriers to treatment: difficulty traveling to clinics, long wait times, fragmented communication between providers, and a lack of access to wound care specialists in their communities.

Gateway Wound Care was built to solve those problems. By bringing specialist-level wound care directly to patients in their homes, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and group homes, we remove transportation barriers, reduce the stress and discomfort of clinic visits, and deliver the consistent, expert care that chronic wounds demand. Our goal is better healing, fewer hospital visits, and more patients who can recover with dignity in the place they feel most comfortable.

Our Founding Story

Gateway Wound Care was founded by Dr. Blumenthal, a board-certified wound care specialist with years of experience managing complex wounds in hospital and outpatient settings. Dr. Blumenthal recognized that while hospital wound care centers provided excellent acute care, too many patients fell through the gaps once discharged home. Patients faced long drives to clinics, struggled to access expert care in their communities, and often experienced complications from gaps in wound management between medical visits.

This vision led to the creation of Gateway Wound Care, a mobile wound care service that brings the same level of expertise, advanced treatments, and evidence-based protocols directly to patients wherever they are. Rather than asking patients to travel to us, we travel to them. This model has transformed wound care in the St. Louis area, providing access to specialized wound management for patients who might otherwise go without it.

Our Approach

We believe that effective wound care is about more than treating the wound. It is about understanding the whole patient: their health history, their daily life, their goals, and the support system around them. Our specialists take the time to listen, explain, and involve patients and families in every aspect of the treatment plan.

Every wound is assessed using standardized clinical tools and evidence-based protocols. We document wound progress with photographs and detailed measurements at every visit, giving both patients and referring providers a clear picture of healing trajectory. When a wound is not progressing as expected, we adjust the treatment approach proactively rather than waiting for problems to develop.

We use the full range of advanced wound care treatments, from debridement and compression therapy to negative pressure wound therapy and cellular tissue products. Our specialists stay current with the latest clinical evidence and wound care technologies so that every patient benefits from the best available care.

Our Specialists

Our wound care team consists of board-certified clinicians with specialized training and extensive hands-on experience in wound management. Our specialists hold advanced certifications in wound care and have managed thousands of wounds across every care setting, from hospital wound care centers to skilled nursing facilities to patients' homes.

What sets our team apart is not just clinical skill but genuine compassion for the patients we serve. We understand that living with a chronic wound can be painful, isolating, and frustrating. Our specialists approach every patient with patience, respect, and a commitment to clear communication. We explain what we are doing and why, answer questions honestly, and make sure patients and families feel confident in their care.

Our clinicians maintain their expertise through ongoing continuing education, participation in wound care conferences, and regular review of the latest clinical literature. This commitment to staying current ensures that our patients always receive care based on the best available evidence.

Our Values

Accessibility

Expert wound care should not require a long drive, a waiting room, or a hospital visit. We bring specialist-level treatment to wherever our patients are, making wound care accessible to people with limited mobility, complex health conditions, or transportation challenges.

Clinical Excellence

We maintain the highest standards of clinical practice. Every decision is grounded in evidence, every treatment follows established protocols, and every wound is assessed with the thoroughness it deserves. We do not cut corners, and we hold ourselves accountable for outcomes.

Communication

Clear, timely communication with patients, families, and the entire care team is non-negotiable. We provide detailed reports to referring physicians after every visit, keep facility staff informed, and make sure patients always understand their treatment plan and progress.

Patient Dignity

Living with a wound can affect a person's comfort, confidence, and independence. We treat every patient with respect and sensitivity, providing care in a way that preserves dignity and supports emotional well-being alongside physical healing.

Collaboration

The best outcomes happen when the care team works together. We partner with primary care physicians, specialists, facility staff, home health nurses, and family caregivers to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care for every patient.

Continuity

Wounds heal best with consistent care from a provider who knows the patient's history. We maintain continuity by assigning the same specialist to follow each patient from the first assessment through full healing.
